Prisoners in Muþ E Type jail described the plight of seriously ill inmates in a letter.
The letter claimed that prison authorities and the Forensic Medical Institute have left nine ill prisoners to die.
"If these prisoners die, - the letter say - the AKP government and the Forensic Medical Institute will be responsible."
The letter gave detailed information about seriously ill prisoners.
Görgin Oktar was born in 1973 and has been in prison since 1995. He has been struggling with spontaneous pneumothorax, which is a lung problem. The Forensic Medical Institute deemed Oktar fit to stay in prison despite a report from doctors said that his life is danger should he not undergo a surgical operation.
Kasým Demir suffers from Hepatitis B and high blood pressure. His condition requires that he be admitted to a fully equipped hospital, which has not happened even though he was taken to the Forensic Medical Institute. Demir's condition is rapidly worsening due to inadequate nutrition.
Hulki Güneþ has been in prison since 1998 and suffers from ankylosing spondylitis, a chronic, inflammatory arthritis and autoimmune disease that severely affects the spine. Although there is no cure for the disease, the prison authorities are not responding to requests for treatment.
Fesih Coþkun has been in prison since 1992. He has a heart condition that increases his risk of heart attack. He is experiencing great difficulties in meeting his daily needs in prison.
Prisoner Ýhsan Altýn is 70 percent paralyzed. He is bed-ridden and unable to meet any of his needs.
