Kurdish journalist and writer Özgür Amed has recently been sentenced to 3 years, 1 month and 15 days in prison. Amed was accused of having participated in a demo in Amed in protest against the Roboski massacre on 31 December 2011, three days after the savage killing of 34 Kurdish civilians by Turkish warplanes in Roboski village in Uludere district of Şırnak. He is jailed in Diyarbakır D Type Prison since 23 February 2015.

This article of his, which he managed to send from prison, for his column on Özgür Gündem paper has been translated into English below;

Life itself is a continued state of acquaintance. New people, lives, places, truths and new contacts of course. Each acquaintance begins with a hello. It is just several days since I became acquainted with prison. If the internal security (internal violence) package which is wanted to be enacted forcibly sees no legal harm, I from Amed D Type prison would like to say "Hello..." to everyone, the friends here inside being in the first place.

The emotional part of the article is only this much! I am sorry if I am expected to continue it further as there are a few subjects I would like to talk about. Before broaching the subject, I would like to underline that I attended many panels, protests and activities regarding the Roboski massacre. I will also continue to do so until an account of this "massacre" is given. Having seen, read and written hundreds of records, I understood one single thing so far; the first breath of judiciary and justice in Turkey is the last breath of logic, and it seems unlikely to get better.

Dear comrades, in all modesty, I have some work to do with friends Max Planck, Werner Heisenberg, Thomas Young and Erwin Schrödinger. If you remember, Adorno and heval (comrade in Kurdish) Nietzche had appeared in KCK case files earlier. Now, the comrades I've just mentioned, i.e. the leading names of 'Quantum', are also appearing in the case file that has led to my arrest. Their spirit wanders around here. Well, how did this happen? Let me summarize it immediately!

I was arrested on the grounds of a Roboski demo held in Amed on 31 December 2011. (I however didn't join the demo. Me and my friend İbrahim Aydın – other than 2 other people who were punished within this case- were forcibly and brutally detained while sitting in a tea house 1 km away from the area where the demo took place.) We were a total of 18 people taken into custody that day. Everyone -expect for us- was consequently acquitted, for there was nothing at all in the case file anyway. Some were released and some sentenced basing on the very same file. This happened on the basis of the same issue and same accusations...

When nothing concrete was to be found in the case file, police came into play and gave evidence against us. I've said that the file consisted of nothing, but not that much actually! We had allegedly assaulted dozens of policemen while in handcuffs, and on top of that assaulted ourselves even. In other words, what the court argued was that we assaulted ourselves as a hobby at our leisure. An AKP deputy has recently argued the same for the HDP deputies, hasn't he?

Now, let's come to the actual point! The presentation of false tesimony by police revealed some New Yorky situations. A policeman testified that he had detained me from around the Medine Boulevard while I was fleeing after throwing stone to the police. Another policeman on the other hand testified that he had taken me into custody near the DBP district office in Bayındırlık, where indeed we were detained. As you understand, I was present and detained at two separate places simultaneously. This situation even goes beyond the well-known "double slit" experiment of Quantum. By being present at more than one place at the same time, I am obviously challenging the subatomic particles. Shame on the science world if it happens to ignore this case. And I am hereby calling on the electrons and electrodes; abandon the CHP mentality, take your 400 deputies and enact your law against me!

While the case file, which consists of no image or photographs but only the testimony of our witness, is in the right consistency of the "uncertainty-principle", the court gets water from a flint and says "Everything is very clear and explicit". Naturally, I would like to ask; What did Quantum do to you? What sort of a madness is this? I don't know which one to ask about of course, as there are thousands of similar examples.

The state is subjecting Kurds to a hostile law for centuries. This is a structural and deep-rooted tradition which will maybe go through a recovery for the first time within the negotiation process. I hope it does. Roboski is a festering sore. With the occasion of this case, I commemorate all the victims with respect once again.
