Regional Medical Chambers condemn attack by police on HDP MP and doctor Habip Eksik

Regional Medical Chambers condemned the attack by police on HDP Deputy and doctor Habip Eksik, saying, "Violence against health personnel is a part of social violence".

People's Democratic Party (HDP) Iğdır MP was brutally beaten by police during the march in Yüksekova, in the province of Hakkari, on the anniversary of the international conspiracy against Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The medical chambers of Ağrı, Batman, Bitlis, Amed, Mardin, Urfa, Şırnak and Van-Hakkari issued a joint written statement condemning the attack.

The statement underlined that the right to demonstrate, assemble and march is guaranteed by the constitution and international agreements, and added that restrictions on fundamental rights in Turkey continue to increase.

The chambers said: “We would like to emphasize that we condemn this incident, and add that torture is an absolute crime, and that the necessary judicial and administrative actions should be taken against those responsible as soon as possible. It is only possible to end the widespread social violence if incidents like this are punished. Violence against health personnel is also a part of social violence. We respectfully announce to the public that we will continue to exercise our indispensable democratic rights against all oppressive practices.”
