Turkish state obstructs humanitarian aid reaching people of Kobané

The Turkish state has prevented humanitarian aid sent from Denmark reaching people from Kobané who are in Suruc.

The Turkish state has prevented humanitarian aid sent from Denmark reaching people from Kobané who are in Suruc. Kobané Støttefond Association spokesperson Daniel Madsen said a truck of aid comprised of clothes, shoes, mattresses and toys is being kept waiting at the Turkish customs on the Bulgaria/Turkey border, adding that the Turkish state is acting in a hostile way towards the people of Kobané.

The Denmark Kobané Støttefond Association, together with a city councillor in Furesø, Deniz Celal Kılıç, have sent a truck of humanitarian aid for the people from Kobané who are currently staying in the Suruc district of Urfa. The truck is being kept waiting at the customs and not being allowed to enter the country.

Kobané Støttefond Association spokesperson Daniel Madsen said the aid has not yet reached to the people as the Turkish state is preventing it, adding that the reason of this prevention is the attempt of the Turkish state to politicise the issue despite the necessary checks at the customs having been completed and the aid having been confirmed to consist of nothing other than the mentioned items. Madsen said the Turkish authorities demanded that the aid be handed over to them rather than directly allowing the truck to reach Suruc.

Madsen called on the Danish Foreign Affairs Ministry to talk to the Turkish authorities and allow the truck to reach Suruc, and added that 5 other trucks from Europe carrying aid for the people in the camps in Suruc are also being kept at the customs at the Turkish-Bulgaria border.

Madsen said it is not easy for them to understand the hostile attitude of the Turkish state towards displaced Kurdish people and stressed that the Turkish state is even not allowing the Red Cross, which is an international humanitarian aid organisation, to cross into Kobané to deliver aid.

Kobané Støttefond Association spokesperson Daniel Madsen called on the international community to intervene and to show solidarity with the Kurdish people who are having a hard time.
