10 detained, 20 remanded in custody in today’s operations

While 10 people were detained in today’s operations, 20 others were remanded in custody by court decisions in Iğdır, Antalya, Van, Ağrı and Urfa.

IĞDIR

Within the scope of simultaneous raids in many houses in Tuzluca and Hoşhaber neighbourhoods of Iğdır, police forces detained co-mayor Şaziye Önder and eight other DBP executives this morning.

While the operation was reportedly carried out in relation with a human shield action, some of the detainees were taken to Gendarmerie Station in the city and the others to Tuzluca Police Department.

ANTALYA

19 students and some members of the HDP, who had been detained in house raids in Antalya on October 5, were today taken to courthouse to give their testimonies at the prosecutor’s office under intense blockade by anti-terror teams. Relatives and friends of the students also went to the courthouse in support of the detainees, chanting the slogans “Detentions and arrest cannot intimidate us”, “Human dignity will defeat torture”.

While eight of the detained students were released after their testimonies at the prosecutor’s office, eleven of them were referred to court on demand of arrest. 11 students were therewith remanded in custody by the court on grounds of “being member of an organisation” and “spreading propaganda of an organisation” and were sent to Antalya L Type Prison.

VAN

Co-mayor of Özalp district of Van, Handan Bağcı, deputy co-mayor Okan Bayram and Municipal Council member Kasım Hazır have been formally arrested after their detention this morning. The three were detained in line with an objection of the prosecutor to a previous court decision, which had ruled the release of the three elected members of the DBP following their detention on October 1.

Co-mayor Handan Bağcı and deputy co-mayor Okan Bayram were detained after police forces raided the municipality building in Özalp district of Van earlier today. On the other hand, Municipal Council member Kasım Hazır was also detained in Atatürk Street on the grounds of the same objection by the prosecutor.

Despite having a medical report of disability by 70 percent, Hazır was also taken to district courthouse, from which all the three were referred to the Penal Court of First Instance. Bağcı, Bayram and Hazır were there remanded in custody on alleged grounds of “committing crime in the name of an organisation”, “resisting an officer on duty”, “damaging public property”.

In the meantime, HDP Edremit district branch co-chair Recep Gültekin was formally arrested on alleged grounds of “being member of an organisation” after being detained in a police raid in his house in Edremit.

AĞRI

Special operation teams carried out simultaneous house raids and detained 4 people yesterday. The detainees were taken to a court where they were formally arrested on alleged grounds of “being member of an organisation”. The arrested were then taken to Ağrı M Type Prison.

Another person, who had been detained in Gamêşvan (Doğansu) village, is expected to be referred to courthouse today.

In another development, DBP Tutak district branch co-chair Bülent Oğul, who had been detained yesterday morning, was remanded in custody today by a court decision on alleged grounds of “aiding an organisation”.

URFA

One person was detained for unknown reason in Suruç district of Urfa in the house raids conducted by police forces. The detainee was reportedly taken to Urfa Police Department.

ANKARA

Procedures for 24 persons who had been detained in Ankara on October 6, have been completed at the prosecutor’s office. HDP Party Assembly member Hacı Mehmet Bozdağ and five others have been referred to court on demand of arrest.
