Academics in the universities in Rojhilat’s (Eastern Kurdistan) Sine and Kermanshah provinces have issued a statement condemning the Turkish state’s attacks against Afrin and protested the silence of the international public.
180 academics including Eshed Xefûrî, Hadi Talimuradî, Bahar Emanî and Şeyda Fethi said, “Erdoğan wants to add another dark page in the history of the world with another massacre. We demand international actors put a stop to these boundless murders.”
The statement signed by 180 academics includes the following:
“Having failed to break the Kurdish will in Kobanê and other Kurdish cities, the Turkish state under the rule of Tayyip Erdoğan is now attempting to invade Afrin with a dirty deal with Russia, greenlighting by the US and silence from those who chant ‘human rights’ for the Middle East.
The Turkish state, along with their army and the gangs who have turned Syria into a sea of blood, is using the latest technology in weapons to attack Afrin, where Kurds, Arabs, Turkmens, Circassians, Alevis, Êzidîs and over half a million migrants live together. In these attacks, dozens of women and children have already been massacred. Erdoğan wants to add another dark page in the history of the world with another massacre.
We the signatories, as academics of universities in Kirmanshan and Sine, consider it a duty to voice the following four points:
- The Turkish state’s attacks on another country’s territory in front of the eyes of the international public are illegitimate and criminal.
- These attacks launched by the Turkish state to expand their hegemony are threatening the Syrian peace.
- This operation is creating a foundation for foreign intervention in the region.
- The future and guarantee of life for civilians in the region are being ignored.
We consider all those who remain silent in the face of these violations and murders by the Turkish state to have committed crimes against universal norms of law. We condemn and convict the Turkish state’s attacks. We demand Iran and international actors put a stop to these boundless murders.”
