20 more village guards resign from duty in response to massacres

20 guards from Sümer (Deywan) village of Mardin's Dargeçit district have submitted their resignation letters in protest at the state’s genocidal attacks in Northern Kurdistan.

20 guards from Sümer (Deywan) village of Mardin's Dargeçit district have submitted their resignation letters in protest at the state’s genocidal attacks in Northern Kurdistan.

Local sources report that Dargeçit District Gendarmerie Commander visited Sümer village and asked the village guards to participate in the military operations in Nusaybin. The village guards replied they would not take part in the operations and went to the district governor's office together to submit their resignations.

Yesterday, 34 village guards from Mardin's Ömerli district laid down their arms and resigned from duty in protest at the ongoing massacres of state forces in Northern Kurdistan.

According to local sources, a total of 10 guards have resigned in Kaynakkaya (Kudê) village; 20 in İkipınar (Terê) village and 4 in Beşikkaya (Favê) village during the past 3 days.

Reports of similar resignations by village guards are also coming through from some villages in Mardin's Savur district.
