While over 20 persons were detained in today's police operations in Erzurum, Batman and Hakkari, one other person was remanded in custody in Van.
ERZURUM
Police forces conducted simultaneous raids in many houses in Kırımkaya, Kopal, Hacılar, Erhanlar, Sarıveli and Binpınar neighbourhoods of Erzurum's Karaçoban district early this morning, breaking the doors and the windows of the houses targeted in the operation. 12 persons, including the co-chair of the DBP district branch and executives and members of the city council were detained in the raids. The number of the detainees is expected to increase in the coming hours, according to the reports from the district.
BATMAN
DBP Batman branch executive Hikmet Yeşilmen, who was detained at Diyarbakir airport during ID check by the police as he was set to fly to Ankara. While Yeşilmen was taken to police headquarters in Amed, the reason for his detention has not been announced.
HAKKARİ
Special operation units raided many houses in Bağlar, Piçer and Pehlivan neighbourhoods in Hakkari this morning. While the doors of the houses were broken by the police, eight persons, including one 17 year-old minor, were detained. The detainees were taken to provincial police department. One person, whose house was raided in the operation, said police insulted him and aimed their gun at him during the raid.
VAN
The three person detained by police during ID check at a control point near Regional Training and Research Hospital in Edremit district of Van were taken to the Courthouse. One of the three detainees was remanded in custody by the court on alleged grounds of “being member of an organisation”, and taken to Van M Type Closed Prison.
