25 people, including Doğubayazıt co-mayor Rohat Özbay and DBP district branch co-chair Nuri Çelik, who started human shield action against the operation launched by Turkish troops in Ağrı yesterday, were detained.
The detainees, who were acting as human shield in order to prevent the operation of the Turkish army in Elê area of Mount Ararat region, were taken to Doğubayazıt District Gendarmerie Station. In the meantime the troops participating in the operation reportedly retreated from Mount Ararat while no clear information could be obtained as regards to the operation.
In another development, it has emerged that the news appeared on Turkish daily Sabah that a cemetery of PKK members was destroyed in the operation didn't reflect the truth. Speaking on the issue, HDP Ağrı deputy Mehmet Emir İlhan, who was acting as a human shield in the operation area yesterday, told that Turkish forces hit not the cemetery but the surrounding area.
İlhan added that they wanted to go to the scene but were not allowed by security forces.
