47 years old bus driver Mahmut Kahraman was stopped by the police as he passed by the municipality of Ağrı’s Doğubayazıt district because he was wearing a T-shirt with the inscription 'Kurdistan'.

Anti-terror police units were dispatched to the scene afterwards, and took the man into custody.

Following three days in custody, Kahraman was referred to court with a demand for his arrest, and jailed for “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organisation”.

Kahraman’s relatives reacted to the arrest and stated that the man was subject to torture during custody.
