Barış Özdinç, Serhat Engin, Serkan Akdağ, Ferhat Çetin, Serkan Tan, Agit Kurt, Cahit Erdal, Mazlum Kurt and Ali Sönmez were detained in Hakkari on 8 May for participation in the protests against the will usurpation in Van. The detainees were prevented from seeing their lawyers for 24 hours during their custody at the Provincial Security Directorate.
After giving their statements at the police station, the detainees were referred to the courthouse. The prosecutor's office referred 9 people to Hakkari Criminal Judicature of Peace with the demand of arrest on the charges of "making illegal organisation propaganda" and "illegal organisation membership".
The judgeship issued arrest warrants for Barış Özdinç, Serhat Engin, Serkan Akdağ, Ferhat Çetin, Serkan Tan, Agit Kurt and Cahit Erdal, while sentencing Mazlum Kurt and Ali Sönmez to house arrest.
Those remanded in custody were sent to Van High Security Prison.
