The High Elections and Referendum Commission released a statement on yesterday’s Independence Referendum in Southern Kurdistan. According to the Commission, out of the 4,581,255 eligible voters, 3,305,925 turned out to cast their ballot, amounting to 72.16 percent participation in the vote. The results will reportedly be announced within 72 hours.
Yesterday’s vote began at 8am local time and lasted till 7pm in the evening. According to unofficial results, the turnout rate in the independence referendum is as follows;

Duhok: 90 percent
Kirkuk: 78.77 percent
Nineveh Plain: 86 percent
Khanaqin: 92 percent
Akri: 94 percent
Gulala: 78 percent
Zakho: 94 percent
Qaratapa: 62 percent
Jabara: 76 percent
Soran: 86 percent
Makhmur: 87.3 percent
Amedi: 89 percent
Choman: 91 percent
Mergesur: 98 percent
Rawanduz: 90 percent
