Out of the 12 people who were detained in Elazığ due to their social media posts, 8 have been jailed.
12 people had been taken into custody in Elazığ and its Karakoçan and Kovancılar districts on August 18 on the grounds of their social media posts. Following the procedures at the security directorate, the detainees were taken to the prosecutor’s office where they gave their testimonies.
Referred to court with a demand for their arrest, 8 of the detainees were remanded in custody for allegedly “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organisation” while the other 4 were released.
In the meantime, it came out that riot police put a gun to a man’s head during the house raids when the 12 people were detained, and heavily battered his 4-year-old kid that run to his father in fear during the raid.
On the other hand, former administrator of DBP Silvan branch, Naci Toptemiş, was taken into custody during a house raid in Amed’s Silvan district. The reason for Toptemiş’s detention was not disclosed.
