The Turkish state continues its efforts to occupy the north and eastern Syria under the pretext of protecting Syrian civilians within a ‘safe zone’ called by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In this context, political analyst from South Kurdistan, Falah Salah spoke to the ANF, saying that the threats launched by the Turkish state against the northern and eastern Syria under the pretext of a ‘safe zone’, is nothing but an old attempt to revive a new Ottoman Empire colonial in the region.
Salah said: “The aspirations of the Turkish state to revive the Ottoman hegemony increased after the defeat of the ISIS terrorist organization by the Syrian Democratic Forces. Turkey is now pursuing its hideous policy to put the Kurds and the Kurdish people on one list and look to eliminate the victories gained by the Kurdish people in Rojava through its colonial projects. Therefore, Kurdish political forces must unite in the face of expansionist Turkish policies aimed at eliminating the Kurdish people. The experience in northern and eastern Syria is a source of strength for the Kurdish people. Everyone must know that the crisis between the United States and Iran will worsen in the near future and the scales will change according to this crisis.”
Speaking about the issue of a ‘safe zone’ in northern Syria, which occupied the headlines in the media and was at the top of the agenda of leaders of countries in recent weeks, citing similar zones in Palestinian issue and the issue of Bosnia and Herzegovina to indicate the interests of Turkey, Salah said: “In South Kurdistan we have experiences on this issue but we did not get any international protection during the Anfal crimes, which killed tens of thousands of civilians. In 1991, there were similar efforts. The UN no-fly zone was imposed in the Kurdistan region and was linked to the interests of other powers.”
The Kurdish political analyst concluded by saying: “It would be welcome if a safe zone was formed in the northern and eastern Syria under the auspices of the global Coalition against ISIS. It would also be welcome if it was sponsored by the United Nations. But when it is under the auspices of the Turkish state, it will pose a great threat to the Kurdish people. And will testify to the victory of the Turkish state in its plots and war when it gets a region of 400 km and the width of 30 km from the northern and eastern Syria.”
Political analyst Falah Salah said that they should not look at the issue of the safe zone in terms of military only and said: “There are great efforts that may lead to the creation of confrontations between many parties and at the same time will have an impact on the interests of many of the forces.”
