Academic Emin: Humanity is in isolation in the person of Abdullah Öcalan

Speaking about the "Dem Dema Azadiyê" [Time for Freedom] campaign launched to realise the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Öcalan, lecturer Hewjin Mele Emin said that Öcalan's freedom is the freedom of the peoples of the region.

Kurdistan Region’s University of Sulaimani Lecturer and Academician Hewjin Mele Emin supports the "Dem Dema Azadiyê" [Time for Freedom] campaign launched by the KCK to realise the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and asks everyone to support it.

In his statement, Mele Emin said that the case of Kurdish People's Leader Öcalan is not only his case, but the case of a nation and a people's struggle for freedom and democracy in the Middle East. "It is not a personal problem. In the person of Mr. Öcalan, freedom is in prison. In the person of Mr. Öcalan, democracy is in prison. In the person of Mr. Öcalan, the Kurdish cause, the Kurdish issue is in prison. Therefore, to fight for the freedom of Mr. Öcalan is not to fight for the freedom of a single person. It is to fight for the freedom of the peoples of the Middle East, for the peoples of the Middle East to live together and peacefully in a democracy," Emin underlined.

INTELLECTUALS AND ACADEMICIANS FROM BASHUR FOR ÖCALAN’S FREEDOM

Mele Emin said that as intellectuals, writers and academics of Southern Kurdistan (Bashur), they started a petition for Öcalan's freedom and there has been a great interest in the campaign from Bashur and the Bakur (Northern Kurdistan), from abroad and Rojhilate Kurdistan [Iranian Kurdistan]. Moreover the signatories are not only Kurds, there are also many Arabs, Persians, Turks, Turkmen, Azeris and European intellectuals, writers and academics.

Emphasizing that the signature campaign alone will not be enough for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, Mele Emin said, "We need to work more with various other methods."

"WE CAN SUCCEED IF WE SEE ABDULLAH ÖCALAN'S FREEDOM AS OUR FREEDOM!"

Mele Emin concluded his words by remarking that he believes that the developments in the region and the international arena have the necessary conditions for Öcalan's freedom: "I think that if we continue without stopping, we will achieve results. In the past, some international powers and countries used to say that Mr. Öcalan's case was a political one. But at the current stage, the international public and many countries consider that Mr. Öcalan's case and struggle are a legitimate cause and struggle.

Everyone now admits that Mr. Öcalan's case is the cause of the peoples of the Middle East and the Kurdish people, and that it is the cause of peace, freedom and democracy. The international community offers serious support in this regard. That's why I say that we should make good use of it. We should know that this work and demand are the duty of all of us, all of our people and the libertarian and peaceful peoples of the whole world, as well as us intellectuals, writers and academics. I openly say that Öcalan's freedom is our freedom, and we should all say this and work accordingly.”
