Air Defense Units strike Turkish military base in Sheladize

The air defense units of HPG struck a Turkish military base in Southern Kurdistan. The action was dedicated to Doğa Zîlan, the first martyr of the Air Defense Units.

The "Şehîd Delal Amed Air Defense Units" hit the Turkish military base Sirê in the town of Sheladize in Amadiya city, Duhok Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq).

According to the statement published by the press office of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) on Monday, the action was carried out last Thursday. "The explosive-laden missiles successfully reached the targets, which were effectively hit. Several soldiers were killed in the course of the action, but the exact number could not be determined," said the statement.

HPG dedicated the action to guerrilla fighter Doğa Zilan, who died on July 12 in an action against the Turkish invasion forces in Heftanin.

An uprising broke out at the Sirê military base in early 2019 after four civilians from Sheladize were killed in a deadly Turkish air strike. Several people stormed the base in response, setting fire to vehicles, ammunition stores and armaments. The soldiers who had initially fled then fired into the crowd, killing a man and a 13-year-old demonstrator. Six other people were injured, some severely, by the shelling.

Air attacks on Medya Defense Zones

In today's statement, HPG also reported renewed air attacks by the Turkish army on the guerrilla-controlled Medya Defense Zones. Accordingly, fighter jets attacked the Rostê highland in Goşine area of Xakurke region on Sunday morning (August 24). In the evening, the Karker and Saca areas in the Zap region were bombed. According to the HPG, these attacks did not result in guerrilla losses, but a fire broke out in Karker area.
