In Şırnak’s Silopi district, “expropriated” Başak and Barbaros neighborhoods are being torn down with construction equipment under the guise of a reinstated “curfew”. State forces entering the neighborhoods with construction equipment even though there haven’t been any clashes for days make people ask “Is the curfew not lifted to tear the houses down?”

A two-storey house in Barbaros neighborhood caught on camera yesterday was seen being torn down in the evening hours. Residents of Başak (Zap) and Barbaros neighborhoods where the demolition has been going on for days try to save whatever belongings they can, while the belongings that couldn’t be saved end up beneath the rubble.

Yavuz Selim Elementary School in Barbaros neighborhood that was supposed to be turned into an outpost was also demolished by construction equipment. Sources say an outpost will replace the school. In Şehit Harun neighborhood, police and soldiers use several houses as headquarters and had raided some surrounding houses by tearing down their doors.

State forces continue attacking citizens who go out on the streets with tear gas and pressurized water in Dicle, Ofis and Yenişehir neighborhoods.
