A restaurant has been built at the site of the Ehmedê Xanî Monument that was torn down by the AKP in Doğubeyazıt, Ağrı last year.
The monument for Kurdish philosopher Ehmedê Xanî, located in the Ehmedê Xanî Park in Doğubeyazıt district of Ağrı, was torn down on 22 June 2017 upon the instruction of Doğubayazıt district governor and trustee Ulaş Akhan.
A statement made by trustee Akhan following the demolition of the monument claimed that the monument had been removed on the grounds that it was accidentally damaged during the road, pavement construction and median strip arrangement works carried out by the municipality. The trustee also argued that a same monument will be erected at the same site very soon.
However, the monument has not been replaced by a new one during the past one year, and a “Saray Harman Cafe-Restaurant- Family Tea Garden” has been built at the site of the monument in the park.
