Hours before the historic Newroz celebration in Amed, people took to the streets and transformed every street to celebration spaces.

Despite the cold weather, people wore their colorful clothes and began to flock to the Newroz Park located 4 km away from the city center. Thousands of young people, elders, and children wearing traditional clothes and carrying green, red and yellow banners do folk dances on the streets as they celebrate Newroz. Resistance songs are heard across the streets of Amed and people have formed a cortege as they march to the Newroz celebration area.

Thousands of people in Amed's Sur and Bağlar districts, where curfews and atrocities have been taking place for months, are also marching to the Newroz area. Songs of resistance can be heard louder in these two districts, where residents chant the names of those who died during the resistance. 4 thousand people are assigned by the organization committee to provide security during the celebration, and have taken security precautions in and around Newroz Park this morning. Street sellers that are seen at the square every year also took their place in the celebration area this morning.

People of Amed march to Newroz Park from 5 different directions and women wearing green, red, and yellow were prevented from entering the celebration area. Police officers also seized the press cards distributed by the organization committee, with the excuse that these cards 'have victory signs' on them. People continue to flock to the Newroz celebration area despite the heavy presence of water cannons and riot police forces.
