Artists from South Kurdistan: Stand up for Qandil

Artists support the human shield initiative launched by the Patriotic Youth movement.

Leading South Kurdistan artists and poets went to Qandil to protest against the attacks and threats carried out by the Turkish state.

The recent threats by the AKP regime that it will occupy Qandil, have prompted the people of Bashur (South) Kurdistan and the patriotic youth to act.

The Patriotic youth movement launched a human shield action on 8 June to defend Qandil against the occupation threats. The human shield tent put up in Qandil soon was crowded with people.

Artists visited the human shield tent

Prominent poets and artists visited the tent and stated their strongest opposition towards the occupation, while at the same time calling on artists, poets, writers and intellectuals from the four parts of Kurdistan to reclaim Qandil.

“We stand up for Qandil”, this is the message the artists want to send, said Casim Saz.

Saz added: “As a South Kurdistan artist, I came to Qandil to support the human shield campaign launched by the youth against the threats of the Turkish state to occupy Qandil. We too stand up for Qandil”.

The attacks of the Turkish state are not only against Qandil, reminded Saz who added: “Turkey wants to attack and invade all four parts of Kurdistan. The threats made to Kobanê first, then Afrin and now Bradost and Qandil show this clearly”.

Saz insisted: “They say they will invade Qandil, but we will not allow this. We call on all South Kurdistan artists, intellectuals, writers, poets to stand against the Turkish state’s occupation attempt”.

Guerrillas are defending all four parts of Kurdistan

The artist insisted on the need to “stand beside young people. Guerrillas - he added - are not just defending Qandil. Guerrillas are defending all four parts of Kurdistan, fighting for it. Some people want to sell out Qandil to Turkey. They are the enemies of Kurdistan. They have opened the way to the occupying Turkish army”.

Poet Sardar Kadir said: “I congratulate the patriotic Kurdish youth for their initiatives against invasion. Poets, writers and intellectuals in the four parts of Kurdistan must support and join this legitimate action”.

Pointing out at the great danger to the people and Kurdistan, Kadir added: “The AKP and Turkey are attacking our country and our people with dreams of neo-Ottomanism. Their goal is to re-occupy all of Kurdistan. They cannot invade Qandil. Because guerrillas are struggling for our people and our country day and night. Qandil has its own history. Qandil shakes Baghdad, Damascus, Tehran, Ankara's heart. Qandil has a history of resistance”.

Kadir ended by saying that “Because of this resistance, the enemies of Kurds and Kurdistan have not been able to enter Qandil so far. And they won’t be able to enter now”.
