The Democratic Autonomous Assembly of Shengal and the Yazidi Women’s Freedom Movement (TAJÊ) made a joint statement to the press in the town of Sinûnê denouncing the escalating genocidal attacks by the Turkish state against civilian settlements in North-East Syria.
Speaking here, Xwedêda İlyas, Co-Chair of the Democratic Autonomous Assembly of Shengal, called on international human rights organizations to break their silence on “the crimes committed by the Turkish state that brutally attacks the people and civilian institutions.”
Recalling the Rojava people’s support for Yazidis, Ilyas said: “As the Autonomous Administration of Shengal, we stand with the people of Rojava who supported us during the ISIS onslaught in 2014 and stopped the attacks that sought to annihilate us. We call on international human rights organizations to take action for the people of Rojava.”
TAJÊ Spokesperson Rîham Haco defined the Turkish attacks as “inhumane” and said: “The Turkish state has been attacking the vital supply facilities of the population and infrastructure with all its might. These attacks prove the weakness and failure of the Turkish state, which would not have become so destitute as to attack civilian institutions had it not been unsuccessful.”
Remarking that the people of Rojava have been resisting occupation for the past 12 years based on the Revolutionary People’s War, Haco stated: “We believe that the people of Rojava, who rely on their self-power, will succeed in their resistance. They draw strength from their will and their alliance with other peoples.”
