Barzani and Ebadi to meet in Paris on October 4

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi and KDP leader Massoud Barzani will meet in Paris on October 4.  It will be the first contact between the two leaders after the independence referendum in South Kurdistan.

French President Emmanuel Macron invited both leaders to Paris to discuss the independence referendum and current escalation between Iraq’s central government and the Kurdish region.

According to KDP sources, Barzani accepted the invitation on Thursday and Abadi confirmed that he will attend the meeting yesterday.

In a separate development, South Kurdistan’s parliament called neighboring countries to respect the laws of South Kurdistan.

After a session which was not attended by Goran and Komala Islam, parliament released a statement labeling the sanctions against South Kurdistan unlawful.

“According to Constitution of Iraq, the borders cannot be closed with the order of the federal government. We refuse the resolutions of Iraqi parliament” the statement read.
