Bodies of two female guerrillas handed over to families
The bodies of guerrillas Gülistan Şahin and Hunav Ayhan, who were anonymously buried in Mardin, have been exhumed and are transferred by relatives to their homes for burial.
The bodies of the guerrilla fighters Gülistan Şahin (Diren Avent) and Hunav Ayhan (Hêvî Herekol), who died in the province of Mardin, have been handed over to their relatives and are now to be buried in their places of origin.
The two YJA-Star fighters died on August 8 during a military operation by the Turkish army. During the operation, fighting broke out that led to the death of several soldiers. In order not to fall into captivity, the two female guerrillas first destroyed their own weapons and detonated the hand grenades on themselves.
Their bodies were buried by the state in a cemetery of the nameless in Mardin. After a DNA comparison to establish their identity, the bodies were exhumed and handed over to their families. Gülistan Şahin is transferred to Van for burial and Hunav Ayhan to Siirt.
