Last night approximately at 23:00, paramilitary forces affiliated to the regime (Difa Al Wetani) attacked the Merşo gas station in Hesekê, the Qamishlo road and the Asayish checkpoint near the Aşurî church in Al-Mesekê neighborhood. Clashes broke out with Asayish forces’ swift and heavy retaliation.
The clashes spread and continue around Merşo gas station, Al-Mesekê neighborhood, Neşwa Şerqî neighborhood, downtown bazaar and Post Office building.
Meanwhile, a generator caught fire in attacks by regime forces around the Aşurî church in Al-Mesekê neighborhood.
Clashes started yesterday (August 16) around 12:50 when Baath regime forces attacked the Asayish control center in Hesekê bazaar but ended when community leaders intervened at 21:00 last night.
14 regime soldiers were killed and 8 soldiers, 1 of them high ranking, were wounded. 2 Asayish members lost their lives while ensuring the safety of civilians.
