Turkish state continues targeting the elected representatives of the Kurdish people as part of its all-out war concept against the Kurdish population in Northern Kurdistan, the Kurdish region in Turkey.

Sevil Rojbin Çetin, co-mayor of Van's Edremit (Artemêt) district who was recently remanded in custody, has been removed from post.

Çetin had been detained and later remanded in custody following the declaration of self-rule by people in the district on August 24. She has been removed from post today in line with a notice sent to the district municipality by Van Governorate Directorate of Local Authorities following an approval of the demand by the Ministry of the Interior.

In the wake of recent arrests of mayors of Kurdish municipalities on alleged links to terror, a way the Turkish state often resorts to in its total war against Kurds, Turkish Ministry of Interior has suspended seven mayors since last month.

Co-mayor of Şırnak's Cizre district Leyla İmret, Co-mayor of Siirt's Eruh district Hüseyin Kılıç, co-mayor of Mardin's Nusaybin district Sara Kaya, co-mayor of Amed's Silvan district Yüksel Bodakçı and  co-mayor of Amed's Sur municipality Fatma Şık Barut have all been removed from post recently.

Silvan co-mayor Melikşah Teke and deputy co-mayor Ayser Yapıcı were also removed from post earlier this month.

While the co-mayors are accused of “membership to an armed terrorist organisation”, their removal after their consecutive arrest last month is grounded on the declarations of self-rule by the local people in response to the persistently ongoing repression and attacks by Turkish state forces.
