Co-mayors and DBP co-chairs break the military blockade on their way to Batman

A delegation travelling from Amed to participate in the march in Batman against the trustee usurpation was stopped by the soldiers at the entrance of Batman. The soldiers had to lift the blockade after the delegation did not give up their protest.

Protests continue against the usurpation of the municipalities of Mardin, Batman and Halfeti, which were won by the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in the 31 March local elections. The democratically elected co-mayors of the three municipalities were removed from office and replaced by state-appointed trustees on 4 November.

A delegation travelling from Amed (tr: Diyarbakır) to participate in the march against the trustee coup in Batman was not allowed into the city on Sunday.

The delegation, including Democratic Regions Party (DBP) co-chairs Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar, Keskin Bayındır, Amed Metropolitan and district co-mayors, was stopped by soldiers in front of Sinan Police Station at the entrance of Batman.

Denied entry to the city by Turkish soldiers, the delegation started a sit-in protest on the highway.

The soldiers were forced to lift the blockade as the delegation did not give up the protest. The delegation then moved on to Batman and the protest march against the usurpation of people’s will started after their arrival.
