Co-mayors of Mardin's Kızıltepe district municipality, Leyla Salman and İsmail Asi, Department of Culture Head Salih Kuday, MEYA-DER executives Mehmet Gökdemir and Halil Tonguç had been taken into custody on November 25.

The detainees were referred to court which ordered their arrest for alleged “membership to a terrorist organization”.

Three other people detained alongside them were released on conditions of judicial control.
