Reports are coming through of acitivty of contra units disguised as guerrillas in the countryside of Urmia, Eastern Kurdistan.
According to local sources who spoke to ANF, some contra units dressed in guerrilla uniforms have been spotted prowling around in the countryside of Urmia city, Eastern Kurdistan.
The sources reported activity by these contra units in the villages of Sepançe, Mewane, Nanas, Qedo, Derbend and Berdeser.
Reports suggest that these units execute oppression against the local people and extort money from them. It is thought that the contra units could be affiliated to the Iranian regime.
An armed confrontation in Urmia on the 23rd of May was announced to have resulted in the martyrdom of three guerrillas of the People's Defence Forces (HPG). On the 28th May Iranian media reported the death of one officer and another Pasdar with eight more Pasdars having been injured following another armed clash.
In a following statement, Iranian Security Directorate Border Guards Commander General Qasim Rizayî said; “We hold Turkey accountable for this incident", which led to the doubts that Turkey could be engaged in efforts to stir up provocations on the border.
