DEM Party- DBP delegation holds talks in South Kurdistan

The current meetings are a continuation of the talks held by the DEM Party Imrali delegation in southern Kurdistan between February 15-18.

A delegation of the DEM Party and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) is visiting Sulaymaniyah to hold a series of meetings with political parties and civil society organizations in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

The first meeting of the delegation took place today at 12.30 pm with the Gorran (Change) Movement. 

The delegation includes DBP Co-Chair Keskin Bayındır, DEM Party Foreign Affairs Co-Spokespersons Berdan Öztürk and Ebru Günay, DEM Party Mardin MP Saliha Aydeniz and Free Women’s Movement (TJA) member Adalet Fidan.

The DEM Party-DBP delegation was welcomed by Gorran Movement President Dana Ahmet Majid, Foreign Relations Officer Bextiyar Ewlî, Kurdistan Region Parliamentarian Ciwanro Muhammed and former Parliamentarian Gulistan Said.

During the meeting, which took place at the Gorran Movement office in the Kurdsad neighborhood of Sulaymaniyah and lasted for about an hour, the political process in Turkey, developments in the Middle East and the current situation in Syria were discussed. 

In a statement after the meeting, DBP Co-Chair Keskin Bayındır said that they had previously held important talks in Sulaymaniyah and Hewlêr (Erbil) but could not complete the talks due to time constraints.

Bayındır said, “We discussed the ongoing resolution process in Turkey, the developments in the Middle East and especially the events in Syria. The Gorran Movement welcomed us warmly and expressed their support.” 

Gorran Movement Kurdistan Region Parliamentarian Ciwanro Muhammed stated: “We declare our support for any process initiated to stop the bloodshed and obtain the rights of our people.” 

A continuation of the talks of the DEM Party İmralı delegation

The current meetings are a continuation of the talks held by the DEM Party Imrali delegation in southern Kurdistan between February 15-18. At that time, the delegation met with KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) leader Massoud Barzani, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) leader Bafel Talabani, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and PUK Presidency Council Member Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed and conveyed Abdullah Öcalan's messages. 

Talks will continue

The DEM Party-DBP delegation is expected to continue meetings with different political parties and civil society organizations in Sulaymaniyah.
