HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş, Ministers Ali Haydar Konca and Müslüm Doğan, deputies and a large number of civilians have been denied access to Cizre district of Şırnak in solidarity with the locals against the ongoing crackdown and attacks by Turkish state forces.
While the convoy was stopped by security forces after leaving Mardin's Midyat district, and denied permission to move further, HDP deputies who held talks with Turkish officials were told that they wouldn't be allowed to enter Cizre in line with an order given by Turkish authorities.
As Turkish officials continued denying permission for the HDP convoy and people, HDP Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş said in a statement at the scene where blockade by Turkish security forces remains that; “Upon a decision made by the fallen Prime Minister, we are being blocked 80 km to Cizre and not allowed to leave Mardin even. We, however, cannot leave the people of Cizre to death. Together with ministers and deputies, we are going to Cizre on foot.”
The mass therewith broke the blockade by military and police forces and started walking to Cizre, with people chanting the slogan "Bijî berxwedan Cizirê" [Long Live Cizre Resistance].
