Since June 16, the Turkish army has been trying to occupy the region of Heftanin in Southern Kurdistan, Northern Iraq with tens of thousands of soldiers and paramilitaries and air support. The guerrilla resistance continues unabated.
"Village guards should stop their treason"
One of the fighters in Heftanin is Asmîn Bindar. She was injured in battle. Bindar first addresses the people and talks about the paramilitaries, who are recruited to a large extent from so-called village guards: "They should stop forming the vanguard of the enemy in the occupation of Kurdistan. A few cents are certainly no reason to kill the children of your own people and give up your dignity. Our people must stand against these traitors. It's the counter-guerrillas who come here to kill us for money. They must be made to stop. Everyone should inform the people around them against this."
Restructured guerilla successful
Bindar emphasizes that the Turkish military was surprised by the intensity of the resistance, saying; “In particular, the army regretted the advance into the heart of Heftanin, to Pirbula, and withdrew with heavy losses. During the battle for the Pirbula gorge on August 9, 22 members of the Turkish army died in clashes with the guerrillas. In addition, two helicopters of the Turkish air force were damaged. The guerrillas surrounded the Turkish army in the gorge with seven attack units and made hundreds of Turkish soldiers flee.”
Bindar tells that the Turkish army is stuck. They are trying to advance step by step, but at every step they are under attack. That is why it has withdrawn in many areas as the resistance continues.
Commenting on the guerrilla tactics, Bindar said: "The guerrilla has changed and that is why it is successful. The results of the change in method and way of doing things can be seen clearly. As far as attitude, determination and conviction are concerned, there is nothing to say anyway. In Heftanin the existing determination has been enriched with tactics and put into practice in new forms. We must know that we are in the debt of all the martyrs who fought for freedom here. Through their determined struggle, we in Heftanin are on the road to victory."
