Did the KRG Parliament say “Presidency” again?

The Kurdistan Parliament convened yesterday to discuss the proposal on the Kurdistan Region Presidential office.

Following the developments in Kirkuk and the disputed regions after the referendum held in Bashure (Southern) Kurdistan on September 25 and Bashure Kurdistan Regional President Masoud Barzani’s delegation of his authority to legislative, judicial and executive branches and resignation, the regional parliament convened to discuss the “Presidency” issue again yesterday.

The Kurdistan Parliament convened yesterday to discuss the proposal on the office of the Kurdistan Regional Presidency.

In the vote during the session, the proposal was accepted with 33 votes in favor and 16 against. According to the proposal, the Regional Presidency will be taken back on the agenda after the elections to be held on September 30.

According to the proposal, the Presidential Elections will not be held together with the Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections planned for September 30.

According to Article 3 in the proposal, a decision will be made about the future of the institution of the Presidency within the framework of the constitution in the first year of the 5th legislative term of the Kurdistan Parliament.

KDP, KYB and Goran MPs voted on the proposal while Islamic Union of Kurdistan (Yekgirtu) and Kurdistan Islamic Society (Komel) MPs did not vote.
