DTK: Nechirvan Barzani’s statements harm Kurdish National Unity

The Democratic Society Congress said Nechirvan Barzani’s statements in support of Turkey’s attacks against Southern Kurdistan are harming the Kurdish people.

The Democratic Society Congress (Demokratik Toplum Kongresi - DTK) said Southern Kurdistan Regional Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani’s statements are legitimizing Turkey’s attacks against Southern Kurdistan.

DTK said the fascist-racist and aggressive policies by regional states led by Turkey following the independence referendum in Southern Kurdistan are still fresh in memory, and added that the Turkish army’s invasion of Afrin happened as a continuation of the same process.

The DTK statement continues to say, “All these developments have brought our people in all four parts of Kurdistan face to face with extremely important and vital issues in the political, social, sociological and demographical senses.

The fact that the resolution of all these issues is through achieving National Unity for our people in all four parts of Kurdistan has been shared with our people through statements by all Kurdistani political parties and democratic institutions.”

The DTK statement includes the following on Barzani’s comments and initiatives:

The statements Southern Kurdistan Regional Government’s Prime Minister Mr. Nechirvan Barzani made last week show that this fact hasn’t been brought to consciousness enough, and that a political awareness focused on National Unity through the correct assessment of past experiences hasn’t been reached yet.

As the Democratic Society Congress, we would like to say to all the people of Kurdistan and the international public that we consider Mr. Nechirvan Barzani’s comments on Qandil to be very unfortunate, and that these statements have the potential to harm Kurdish National Unity and encourage and legitimize invasion attacks.

Due to the danger and risks we face as a result of the attacks that attempt to eradicate our people from all four parts of Kurdistan and the invasion attempts, we are calling on all political party leaders and administrators to avoid making statements that harm our National Unity, invite further invasions and legitimizes current ones, and to act with common sense.”
