The Supreme Election Commission has announced that the application period for political parties, lists and coalitions to apply to contest the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region is over.
Speaking at a press conference held in Hewlêr, Kurdistan Region Supreme Electoral Commission Spokesperson, Şêrwan Zirar, said that with the completion of the election process and the appointment of candidates, parties can now think to start the electoral campaign process.
Zirar said that the parties had asked the Commission to shorten the election campaign period.
It is said that the parties demanded electoral campaign for the parliamentary elections to be held on 30 September to actually last less than the one-month period normally granted.
The Kurdistan Regional Parliament is made up of 111 deputies.
