A demonstration led by women in the South Kurdish metropolis Sulaymaniyah protested the Turkish military operation and the collaboration of the Barzani family with Erdogan regime.
Hundreds of people took to the streets in Sulaymaniyah to protest against the invasion of the Medya Defense Areas in South Kurdistan. The operation was launched by the Turkish military in cooperation with the KDP on 17 April. The march was led by women.
Solidarity with the guerrillas was expressed on banners and posters and the collaboration between the KDP and the Turkish aggressor was denounced. "No to occupation and collaboration" read one banner. The demonstrators chanted slogans to express their support for the guerrillas and their anger at the Barzani family.
KDP and PUK view Turkish war of aggression in different ways
KDP politicians met with Turkish government officials several times before the invasion began. The KDP obviously supports the Turkish war of aggression. On the first day of the war, Turkish attack helicopters did not take off for the attack from the Turkish side of the border, but from South Kurdistan. This is done in coordination with those responsible for KDP. The plan apparently envisages attacking the guerrilla areas from all sides and blocking communication routes.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) condemns the Turkish offensive, as does the Iraqi Foreign Ministry. Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the largest parliamentary group in Iraq, also condemned the war of aggression and warned Turkey. As a sovereign country, Iraq will not remain silent in the face of Turkish attacks, Sadr said. Both in Iraq and South Kurdistan, the KDP is alone in its support for Ankara's offensive.
