Maxmur Young Women Movement (TJCM) lit the first Newroz fire in Maxmur Refugee Camp on Sunday night.

The Newroz fire was lit in the area of Martyr Rûbar and celebrations will be held in different parts of the camp every night. The area was decorated with posters of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan and PKK flags.

The celebration started with a minute's silence in memory of the martyrs. After that Mizgîn Kara spoke on behalf of the Maxmur Young Women Movement (TJCM). She said that the Newroz fire is a symbol of success for the Kurdish people and she saluted Abdullah Öcalan, the guerrillas and the Kurdish people.

After the speeches, the Newroz fire was lit while residents chanted slogans such as "Bijî Serok Apo" and "Newroz pîroz be".

The celebration continued with halay (dance) around the fire.
