A total of fourteen regions in the Kurdish province of Şırnak have been declared "temporary special security zones." The background to the measure ordered by the governor's office on Saturday is the Turkish army's military operations in the region. For the local population, the measure means a de facto state of emergency.

The banned locations in question, including the Cudi and Gabar mountains and the region of Besta, are located in the districts of Cizre, Silopi, Uludere, Güçlükonak and Beytüşşebap. The order is initially valid for the period from 12 to 26 November, according to a statement by the governor’s office.
