The family of Roza Amara, one of the guerrillas fighting in the mountains of Kurdistan, is among those who migrated to Switzerland from Mardin as a result of state pressure.

Roza Amara was born and raised in Switzerland. During her university education she travelled to other countries in Europe. She could however not remain indifferent to the Kurdistan Freedom Struggle carried out by the people and their love for their land.

Roza Amara took the decision to join the struggle in her country and went to the mountain of Rojhilat Kurdistan to fight the Iranian state.

Stating that although she grew up in Switzerland, she could not shake off the feeling of foreignness, Roza Amara said: “I always realized that we were missing something. I couldn't live like myself. Growing up with other people's cultures, clothes, and languages always created contradictions for me as a Kurd. Things changed a bit during my university education; I wanted to get to know my own culture better and live it. I travelled to many countries, but it did not happen. I focused on Iran and Rojhilat Kurdistan. I could not accept the current situation. It became clear to me that I needed to be actively involved in the fight. I joined the Kurdish Freedom Movement."

Guerrilla Roza Amara is now in the mountains of Rojhilat Kurdistan, focusing above all on the struggle of Kurdish women against the Iranian regime. She said that she had conversed with women, listened to them and told about the necessity of struggle. She added: “Most of them have no answer to the question of how they will fight against this system. They can be much more active in politics, education, ecology, economy, that is, in all aspects of life. The system trapped them between four walls. Women should not accept this situation. And for this to happen there is a need for a spark. That spark is coming from the Kurdish Freedom Movement and it gets bigger every day."
