The online portal Gerîla TV published new footage of a guerrilla action in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). The footage shows a counter-attack by the guerrillas on a Turkish army position in the Girê Hekarî resistance area in Metîna.
According to HPG information: "The occupiers attacked our forces in the Girê Hekarî resistance area at 8 a.m. on 31 May, facing a response from our forces. The resistance area was bombed with howitzers afterwards."
In the video, attention is drawn to three surveillance cameras installed by the Turkish occupation forces. Soldiers and a position destroyed in the action can be seen.
The action took place during the period in which the Kurdish liberation movement had called for a cessation of all militant actions. The occasion was the devastating series of earthquakes with epicentre in Kurdistan in February. The HPG and YJA Star guerrillas complied with the decision and responded to attacks only in self-defence. Due to the Turkish state's continued annihilation attacks, the decision of inaction was lifted after the elections in Turkey. During the four-month period of inactivity, 32 guerrilla fighters were killed in attacks by the Turkish state.
