Gerîla TV publishes footage of action by YJA Star guerrillas

Footage of an action by the YJA Star guerrillas was published on the online portal Gerîla TV.

Gerîla TV published footage of an action carried out by guerrillas from YJA Star (Free Women's Troops) against a Turkish military post in the Xantûr area in the region of Heftanîn in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) on 22 October.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) said about the action on 22 October 2023: “On 22 October at 12:00 p.m., the invasion troops were fired upon with heavy weapons at Girê Şehîd Berxwedan in the Xantûr area. In this action, four soldiers were killed and a post and a surveillance camera were destroyed. This action was carried out by the forces of YJA Star.”

The action took place in memory of Bêrîtan Hêvî (Gülnaz Karataş). She fell as a martyr on 25 October 1992. The freedom fighter was surrounded by pro-Turkish KDP Peshmerga and refused to surrender. Instead, she resisted to the last cartridge, destroyed her weapon so that it would not fall into enemy hands, and threw herself from a rock to avoid being captured. She became a symbol of the women's army that was founded afterwards.
