A Turkish military helicopter was shot down by the guerrillas and destroyed on 19 August in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area of the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). Gerîla TV has published footage of the action, which the HPG Press Center detailed as follows:
"At 9.35pm on 19 August, a helicopter was spotted flying over Girê Amediyê Resistance Area. The Sikorsky helicopter, which was set to land soldiers in the Martyr Gelhat area, was hit at close range by our mobile teams and was heavily hit. It has been established that the Sikorsky helicopter crashed near Girê police station and went on fire. It was completely destroyed by the fire."
