A huge explosion has occurred in front of the district governor's office in Mardin's Derik district at around 12:10 Thursday noon. The explosion took place during an action against the governorate with rocket launchers.
5 people including the district governor Muhammed Fatih Safitürk, who was recently appointed trustee to the Derik Municipality, and 2 police officers on guard got wounded in the blast. Brief clashes took place near the governorate building after the action, and many ambulances and military and police units arrived at the governorate after the action. Some injured people were taken to state hospitals in Derik and Kızıltepe, and governor Safitürk was taken to the Dicle University Hospital in Amed.
Safitürk is expected to be transferred to Ankara for further treatment, and operation was launched as all roads leading to and from Derik district center has been closed.
