Guerrilla action and Turkish military operation in Şemdinli

HPG guerrillas carried out actions yesterday in Şemdinli where the Turkish army had launched an operation two days ago.

Local sources report that guerrilla forces carried out an action targeting the Çeme Kurke outpost in Hakkari’s Şemdinli district in the morning of August 1st. The action left one soldier dead and some others wounded.

During the same hours, guerrillas also targeted the Begijne outpost not far away from the Çeme Kurke outpost. Guerrillas hit the outpost with several rockets but no clear information is available yet regarding the outcomes of the action.

On the other hand, details regarding the operation launched by the Turkish army in Şemdinli are getting clear.

According to information ANF obtained from local sources, the Turkish army launched an operation in the territory of Jaro Seraro village, Birkaro hill, Martyr Serhildan mountain range, Martyr Zilan hill, Xiro hill and Koordine hill.

Special operations teams airdropped into the operation area with 2 Sikorsky helicopters conducted a raid in the village of Seraro where they battered and detained a villager.

Turkish soldiers have not been able to advance in the operation zone due to the explosives planted by guerrillas. Reports suggest that several mines laid by guerrillas exploded and left many soldiers wounded. Unable to advance due to the explosives, Turkish soldiers retreated from the area gradually on 1-2 August.

The retreat of Turkish troops was followed by airstrikes that caused material damages in civilian settlements.

Guerrillas also carried out an action on Baye hill in Çarrçella region on 1 August.

HPG is expected to release a statement on the mentioned operation by the Turkish army and actions by guerrillas.
