Guerrilla commander Ismail Sürgeç (Nom de Guerre: Yılmaz) was buried in his native city of Dersim. The funeral in the central cemetery of the province was held in the closest family circle, accompanied by intensive police measures. HDP member of parliament Kemal Bülbül and other politicians of his party were forbidden to enter the cemetery.
Ismail Sürgeç belonged to the territorial command of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) in Dersim. On November 10, he was martyred in action during a Turkish military operation in the area between Ahpanos valley and the Aliboğazı gorge near Hozat district.
Until yesterday, the body of the guerrilla commander was still being kept at the forensic department in Malatya. In the evening hours it was handed over for burial and transfer to Dersim by his relatives.
