The 15 August celebration in Medya Defense Areas began with a ceremony. In his speech regarding the importance of the initiative, guerrilla commander Egîd Reşit commemorated all martyrs in the person of the legendary commander Egîd (Mahsum Korkmaz) and saluted Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the guerrillas and the Kurdish people.

Noting that the 15 August Initiative showed that the path to victory passes through the guerrillas, Egîd Reşit said: "The spirit of 15 August is the spirit of revenge. As Kurdistan freedom guerrillas, we will never leave the blood of the martyrs on the ground. The spirit of 15 August is the spirit of revenge of Dersim, Koçgirî, Agirî and Zîlan Creek. It is the spirit of revenge of Şîkak, Helepçe, Şengal and Barzan. It is the spirit of revenge for thousands of years."

Egîd Reşit paid tribute to the guerrillas who carried out self-sacrificing actions, and added: "We promise Leader Apo and the martyrs of Kurdistan and the Kurdish people; the Kurdistan freedom guerrillas will ensure the freedom of Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] and Kurdistan."

After the speech, the guerrillas chanted slogans of loyalty to Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the martyrs, greeted each other one by one and danced to Kurdish songs.
