According to the People's Defense Forces (HPG), “four members of the Turkish occupying forces were killed in guerrilla actions in South Kurdistan on Wednesday. The Turkish army has carried out eleven chemical weapon attacks on guerrilla positions, seven airstrikes with fighter jets and various artillery strikes.”
The HPG press center made the following remarks about the guerrilla actions and the attacks by the Turkish army on 18 January:
“Guerrilla actions in the region of Zap
Mobile guerrilla units attacked the Turkish army with heavy weapons at 9 am, 9.40 am, 11.30 am and 6 pm in the municipality of Şîladizê in Çemço (Zap). Three soldiers were killed. The guerrillas had previously established that some of the soldiers were operating in civilian clothes in the region. At 2.45 p.m., a soldier was shot dead in Çemço by a female guerrilla from the YJA Star.
Attacks by the Turkish army
Guerrilla positions in Çemço were attacked with chemical weapons from morning until night, and a total of eleven operations took place. Turkish fighter jets bombed the area around Gundê Girê and Gundê Kanisarkê in Gare and Goşînê in Xakurke seven times. Çemço and the area surrounding the nearby village of Sîda were attacked dozens of times with howitzers, tanks and heavy weapons.”
