Guerrillas speak about 15 August 1984 and commander Agit
Firsts in history always have a different meaning. The history of the Kurdish people also has a heroic tradition especially since the emergence of the PKK.

Firsts in history always have a different meaning. The history of the Kurdish people also has a heroic tradition especially since the emergence of the PKK.
Actually, the PKK's emergence is in itself a heroic outbreak. In every subsequent process, this tradition was continued with the actions of the leading militants. It is these heroes who represent the essence of the PKK, put it into action and bring it to this day.
The August 15 Initiative is a definite expression of the will and determination of the Kurdish people to live and the struggle for existence. In this sense, consciousness instead of unconsciousness, courage instead of fear, order instead of disorder, belief instead of unbelief, resistance instead of indecision, became the names of the renaissance of the Kurdish people by making rebellion dominant instead of submission.
In the footsteps of Commander Agit (Mahsum Korkmaz), the Kurdistan guerrillas, who promised to protect and defend their lands against fascist enemy forces with the spirit of revenge, shared their feelings and thoughts about the 15 August Initiative.
YJA STAR guerrilla Agirî Ararat said that the 15 August Initiative is still continuing. “It is a great honour to be in the Kurdistan Freedom Struggle as a fighter following the 15 August Initiative. It was Heval Agit (Mahsum Korkmaz) who understood the Leadership (Abdullah Ocalan) with great sacrifice, devotion and discipline when the time came."
Reminding that he is not like the previous Kurdish serhildans and that this breakthrough did not take place to save a few cities, Ararat added: “It was a breakthrough for Kurdistan and humanity. In a war, if the commander cannot carry out his command duties, that war will not go well. That's why we all owe Heval Agit. He is a great hero for us, he is a guiding line. Now every guerrilla in the positions is fighting against the fascist Turkish soldiers with that morale, spirit and courage."
15 August is a bright turning point for the Kurdish people, said YJA STAR guerrilla Berfin Bekes adding that with the first bullet fired in Eruh “a great fear settled in the heart of the enemy. Heval Agit, who combined the leadership's style with courage and will, became the hope and courage of the Kurdish people. 15 August is one of the biggest reasons why the guerrilla has arrived to this day, fighting with courage and revenge. Thanks to Heval Agit, hundreds of young people joined the guerrilla ranks to defend their land against the fascist enemy. Heval Agit is a war and an example of life for us.”
HPG guerrilla Fedakâr Doğan said that the 15 August Initiative was also the answer to the great resistance in the prison. Pointing out the self-sacrificing struggle in Cenga Heftanin, Doğan said: “We will continue to fight with the power we get from these friends and we will grow our struggle. We will walk in the footsteps of our martyred comrades.”
HPG guerrilla Rohat Botan said that the Kurdistan guerrilla, armed with the spirit of 15 August, a big step against colonialism, has been fighting all over Kurdistan for 36 years. Botan reminded that the enemy thought to cut life back then but instead found a guerrilla fighting for the past 36 years. Noting that the Turkish army could not cope with the guerrilla of Kurdistan, Botan said that the struggle will continue.
HPG guerrilla Felat Devrim emphasized that the 15 August Initiative has great historical legacy. “We live in that spirit all the time.” Guerrilla Devrim drew attention to the resistance and the heroism in Cenga Heftanin. Saying that the guerrilla refused to surrender and did not deviate from the resistance. “We promised that we will expel the enemy from our lands with the spirit of 15 August following the footsteps of our comrades who walked to martyrdom. We will not allow the enemy to stay comfortably in our lands."
