Guerrillas strike Turkish military base in Çukurca

HPG hit a Turkish military base in northern Kurdistan. Three soldiers were killed in the action. The Turkish army again used chemical agents at the Werxelê tunnel in Avaşîn.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) said in its daily statement about the ongoing war in Kurdistan that guerrillas struck the Girê military base in Çukurca district of Hakkari.Three soldiers were killed in the action on August 12 which was carried out by two guerrilla groups. The first group attacked an A4 position at close range, killing one soldier. The second group destroyed another position in the base area, which contained two soldiers. The HPG dedicated the action to the anniversary of the first bullet fired by PKK guerrillas on Aug. 15, 1984.

Intervention against attack helicopters in Metîna

In Metîna, Turkish military helicopters flew over the Qaşûra line between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on August 13. When helicopters attempted to bomb the area surrounding the village of Derarê, they were targeted by the guerrillas and forced to retreat, according to the statement.

Attacks by the Turkish army in Southern Kurdistan

The HPG statement further said that on August 12, the Turkish army attacked the areas of Çiyayê Reş, Şikefta Birîndarai, Şehîd Rûstem and Cîloya Biçûk in the Zap region with heavy weapons. On Friday, chemical agents were again used at the Werxelê tunnel in Avaşîn, and the position was also shelled with heavy weapons. Drones continue to fly over the region.

Also on Friday, the surroundings of the villages of Êdînê, Dêşîşê, Seraru in the town of Kanî Masî near Amêdî were bombed by attack helicopters. The surroundings of Hiror and Kêste were attacked with howitzers and mortar shells. Fighter jets carried out attacks on the village of Kawika in the Akrê district and on the area surrounding the village of Sergelê in the Amadiya district.

The guerrillas did not suffer any casualties as a result of the attacks, HPG said.
