Tuncer Bakırhan, Co-Chair of the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) met with Ahmet Davutoğlu, Chair of the Future Party. Bakırhan, accompanied by group deputy chairpersons Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli, was received by Davutoğlu and his entourage at the Future Party's headquarters in Ankara.
During the meeting, which was held closed to the press and lasted approximately one and a half hours, the participants exchanged views on issues on the agenda of Turkey and the region. The visit focused on Turkey's democratization process, the recent meeting between the DEM Party Imrali Delegation and Abdullah Öcalan and the decisions announced by the PKK at its congress on May 12 to disband and disarm.
The parties also exchanged views on deepening interparty dialogue and assessed the steps that need to be taken within the Parliament to achieve peace and a solution. They emphasized that it was of critical importance to establish a fully empowered commission within the Parliament and to adopt a method that will ensure the active involvement of political parties in this process.
The DEM Party is expected to continue its talks with both its constituent parties and alliance forces, as well as with the ruling AKP and MHP, next week.
