The guerrilla units stationed in Shengal carried out a grand ceremony on the 3rd anniversary of the genocide.
One of the HPG (People's Defense Forces) commanders Egîd Kelar held there a speech, in which he focused the attention to the moments of the guerrillas’ arrival at Shengal and said: "We have protected our people, and we will free them."
Commander Egîd Kelar said the following: "Our martyrs will live on forever in the legacy they left us. For this reason we say; our martyrs never die. We recall the hardships, the pain that mothers and children suffered. We will avenge this suffering they put our people through. This revenge has not been taken yet, it is about to come. Therefore we will prepare ourselves to an even higher degree than before. We shoulder a task and duty. In the same way we protected this people, we will free them as well. To let no more genocides ever happen again, the HPG will defend these lands until the very end.
On the 3rd anniversary of the genocide, we will continue our struggle until the end and extend it to every corner of Kurdistan. Wherever there is need, the HPG will be there. We have no other option than understanding the pain of the genocide and acting in accordance to that. The HPG force headed to Shengal, in order to put a halt to the genocide, intervened and stopped the ISIS gangs. If it had not been for our forces, the genocide would have reached even more ferocious dimensions. The HPG fulfilled therefore its duty. It took on this responsibility. It did everything in its power. From here we once again commemorate all of our comrades who fell martyrs in Shengal. In order to prevent something like this to happen ever again, we have to do everything that is necessary. The oppressions and violence imposed on Kurdistan are still ongoing. And we exist, to set bounds to that. No matter where, we are prepared at all times. With this morale and enthusiasm will we protect and defend our people. ISIS has been driven out of this soil, but our people have not been freed completely yet. Until the freedom of our people, we will stand with them. We commemorate once again all our comrades, who fell martyrs during this genocide."
The ceremony ended after the speech with the chant of slogans.
